In SVA’s BFA Animation Department, students are storytellers encouraged to use their imagination and find their own voice using the art form of animation. Whether it is traditional 2D animation, experimental animation or stop motion, all forms of animation are welcome and encouraged. Students in the program must be curious and open to experimentation, while following the high standards of academic performance and professionalism. Developing a story and concept are of equal importance to obtaining a high level of technical skill sets, including the practice of group collaboration.

Last week, we called our annual back-to-school faculty meeting to make sure we were ready to greet all our new and returning faces for the Fall 2026 semester! You are invited to our 2026 Junior Jammies screening on September 12!! We're showing 7 animated shorts produced by last Spring's third-year students in their Advanced Animation Workshop class, operating in a functional studio setting. We'll have a special filmmaker panel after the films, where you can meet some of the creators behind these amazing projects!

Submissions are open for our annual Un**es Screening! We are excited to see what films our BFA Animation students created during the previous school year and celebrate them all at our screening in October! Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors can check their SVA inboxes for the submission form link. Submission deadline: Monday, September 21. Happy Animation!!

Last day of Pride Month, but you already know we celebrate every day of the year anyway ;) WE LOVE U ALL and hope everyone was able to have a good month. It's more important than ever to find community. We hope to continue being a hub for an accepting, diverse, and loving for everyone.
