The main components of the curriculum are Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Sciences, Arts, and Foreign Languages. We focus on Common Core Standards and develop analytical, problem solving, reading and writing skills that will allow our students to become independent thinkers and avid readers. Language Arts curriculum includes the following components:
· Reading
· Grammar
· Spelling and Vocabulary
· Writing
Starting in Kindergarten and throughout elementary and middle school, students read, analyze, and write about what they have read making meaningful text-self connections. Mathematics is taught based on Scott Foresman curriculum that we picked because it explains the key concepts in depth and offers an ample amount of word problems. Science curriculum offers our students thorough understanding of all grade-appropriate concepts in accordance with the State Standards, along with extensive lab work geared towards making our students comfortable in the area of the scientific research. Social Studies curriculum is based on the State of New York standards and offers students American and World history and geography. Students participate in yearly social studies and science fairs that enhance their learning experience. To further enhance our curriculum, we, as a school, participate in National Language Arts and Math Olympics. Our Arts Program offers drawing, art history, and music. Students present their work during school-wide art shows and music performances. To enhance our curriculum, we offer students two mandatory foreign languages, Russian and Spanish, along with Logic and Chess classes. Our school has a chess team. Finally, our school offers physical education classes to make sure students stay fit and lead healthy lifestyles.
