New Students, it's 26-days from the start of the Fall 2024 semester! If you are traveling to NYC from the area airports, be careful to only take legitimate transportation. DO NOT engage with private car drivers who roam the arrival lobby area asking if you "need a taxi?" - ONLY take prearranged cars, yellow taxis or ride-share cars. You can also choose to ride the NYC subway using a credit card or OMNY on your phone.

While the International Student Office mainly works with students who are from outside the U.S., this does not make us immune from the need to address the history of racism and systemic oppression in America. In light of recent instances of police brutality, we stand in solidarity with those demanding justice for Black lives.

As an office serving a diverse community of students from different cultural/non-US contexts, we are aware of the intersecting identities of our students and how they may be impacted by these injustices and recent events. This is why it is especially important that we come together and speak up about the inequalities that affect our community, both at SVA and in society at large.

The ISO team stands in solidarity with our black students, alumni, faculty, staff, and other members of the SVA community in the fight against racial injustice. We are committed to listening, learning, and contributing to the right path forward. The process may be difficult, painful, and require us to come to terms with our own biases, but necessary.

We are working on compiling resources on what international students can do to support the cause as well as educate ourselves. These will be shared in the coming days.

We hope you are staying safe. As always, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] or to the ISO advisors individually.
