Please show your Love and Support for our Tilden Brother Mike Baril... We share this to show our love and support for Brian Baril who is running a half marathon to raise funds for his Father Mike Baril .

Good morning it’s Brian Baril and today I’ll be running the Brooklyn Half Marathon — 13.1 miles from Prospect Park to Coney Island — carrying a lot more than just the distance.

Over the past few months, my family has been going through the hardest time of our lives after my dad suffered a catastrophic hemorrhagic stroke. Since then, it’s been a long road filled with ICU stays, hospital visits, and extended care. Watching someone you love fight every single day changes you in ways you can’t really explain.

Tomorrow’s run is bigger than just a race for me. Every mile from Brooklyn to the Coney Island boardwalk will be for my dad and everything our family has been carrying these past few months.

For every mile I complete, I’ll be donating $50 toward my dad’s ongoing care and medical expenses.

A lot of people have reached out asking how they can support my family, so I’m sharing our GoFundMe below for anyone who would like to help. The love and support we’ve received has carried us through some really dark days.

Even if you can’t donate, sharing this or simply cheering me on tomorrow truly means a lot.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in, prayed for us, supported us, and stayed in our corner through all of this. ❤️

When Dr. King called silence a form of betrayal, he wasn’t speaking rhetorically—he was naming a moral failure. In his Letter from Birmingham Jail, King argued that the greatest obstacle to justice was not open hostility, but the silence of those who know better. Silence, in moments of injustice, does not preserve neutrality; it sides with the status quo.

Recent events in Minnesota involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have prompted widespread concern after federal agents were involved in fatal shootings and aggressive enforcement actions in Minneapolis. These incidents sparked protests and public statements—such as from the National Basketball Players Association—that explicitly invoked King’s warning about silence, urging people not to remain quiet in the face of what many describe as abusive and unjust uses of federal power.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. declared that “a time comes when silence is betrayal” in his 1967 speech “Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence,” delivered at Riverside Church. In that context, King argued that remaining quiet in the face of injustice—whether war, racism, or systemic harm—makes us complicit in the very wrongs we fail to oppose. He believed that silence in times of moral crisis allows injustice to persist and ultimately betrays the oppressed and the ideals of justice we claim to hold.
