She sat with Marcus Garvey and colored him with real care. She found the letters on the rug and worked them out. She discovered numbers at the playground and counted them because she wanted to. She followed the planets around the sun. She chose her own book and stayed with it.

A child who is trusted with her own attention learns something that cannot be handed to her. She learns that her mind belongs to her.

What does learning look like when children are trusted to lead it?

It looks like tracing numbers with full concentration. Squeezing lemons and building the small muscles that will one day hold a pencil with ease. Digging through soil to find hidden words. Balancing, jumping, and taking joyful risks outside. Painting crowns after studying Basquiat.

At Seneca Village Montessori, learning is not something that happens to our children. It is something they do, with their hands, their bodies, and their whole hearts.

We are now enrolling toddlers for the 2026-2027 school year, starting at 22 months.
