“Never in my life have I identified myself as a Christian, but wherever there is antisemitism, I identify as a Jew.”
- Gloria Steinem
Today, we mourn the loss and honor the legacy of Gloria Steinem, the pioneering feminist who advocated tirelessly for women’s rights and social justice.
Steinem’s paternal Jewish heritage and her advocacy against antisemitism were intertwined with her broader feminist activism; her sense of herself as an outsider shaped her connection to Jewishness and she was drawn to the social justice values of Jewish feminism.
May her memory be for a blessing.
