We’re proud to celebrate 52 Democracy Prep scholars who earned the New York State Seal of Biliteracy in Korean this year.

That includes:
 12 from Democracy Prep Charter High School 
 16 from Democracy Prep Endurance High School 
 10 from Democracy Prep Harlem Prep High School 
 14 from Democracy Prep Bronx Prep High School

This distinction recognizes graduating seniors who demonstrate advanced proficiency in English and at least one additional language, and it reflects years of hard work, perseverance, and academic excellence.
We are so proud of our scholars, our Korean program, and the educators who helped make this possible.

The end of a school year is a moment to look back at everything it took to get here.

The early mornings. The hard assignments. The questions asked. The feedback received. The moments when scholars had to try again, lean on their team, and keep believing in what they were building.

This year, New York saw that lesson play out in a big way. After 53 years, the Knicks brought a championship back to the city, reminding us that long seasons can still end in triumph with discipline, resilience, preparation, teamwork, and belief.

At Democracy Prep, that lesson feels familiar.

Every day, our scholars are doing the work before the breakthrough. And every day, our educators, leaders, families, and staff are helping build the conditions that make that breakthrough possible through high expectations, joy, consistency, care, and a belief that we do not quit on ourselves, our team, or our scholars.

As we close out the school year, we are proud of all our community has accomplished and grateful for the people who continue to make this work matter.

We’re thrilled to welcome Melika Butcher-Davis, Ed.D., as our new Deputy Superintendent (9 -12) effective June 15!

Melika is an equity-centered educational leader with experience spanning teaching, instructional leadership, school leadership, and systems-level consulting. She has led school turnarounds, developed leaders nationwide, and driven equitable outcomes for students across PK - 12. At Democracy Prep, Melika will strengthen instructional quality and ensure our 9-12 scholars experience rigorous, affirming, and college-preparatory learning environments.
