HARLEM ROOTS provides an educational program designed to teach children about the people, places, and events that have helped shape Harlem into one of the world's most fascinating places. We are your go-to source for exciting and informative Harlem tours, including some extending throughout New York City. Established in 2007, our company's goal is to plant seeds of knowledge through our youth project and watch them continue to flourish during the tours.

Harlem, this is a night to remember. ๐ŸŽตโœจ The Harlem Jazz Series presents the legendary ๐——๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ ๐—š๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ป on June 19, 2026.

Dick Griffin is one of jazz's most original voices โ€” a trombonist, composer, and educator who has spent over five decades pushing the instrument beyond what anyone thought possible. He opened for Sam Cooke in high school. He played with the Sun Ra Arkestra. He recorded nine albums with Rahsaan Roland Kirk. He played in Charles Mingus's big band. And he invented "circularphonics" โ€” a technique that produces impossible sounds from a single trombone.

Something special is coming to the Harlem Jazz Series. ๐ŸŽบโœจ On June 12, 2026, we present the extraordinary

Franz Hackl is one of jazz's most distinctive voices โ€” an Austrian-born trumpeter, composer, and brass instrument maker who has called Harlem home since 2002. A Manhattan School of Music graduate who studied with trumpet legend Lew Soloff, he has toured the world's greatest stages and performed at the Jazz Standard, Blue Note, Birdland, and Sweet Basil. His IDO Quartet fuses Tyrolean folk music with jazz improvisation into something entirely new.

This is the sound of the world coming to Harlem โ€” and Harlem making it jazz.

Harlem Jazz Series

We did the Jazz Boxx on a Friday night and wow, what a wonderful experience! To be able to enjoy live creative jazz in one of the most culturally rich neighborhoods in NYC is an opportunity no one should miss. Everyone is very accommodating making you feel right at home. As the performers change, we will definitely come back more times, as much as possible.
