Professional Children's School

It is with deep sadness that we share news of the passing of our beloved Shellie Sclan who served as a dedicated member of our faculty at PCS for many years. When she retired, we felt the profound loss of this brilliant and dynamic teacher. She touched countless lives and, as Dr. Dawson, our Head of School, stated, was "a core component of the soul of PCS." After her retirement, Shellie remained connected to the School and continued to support its mission. Sadly, she passed away early Saturday morning following a massive stroke on May 30th from which she never recovered.

Shellie was extraordinary and touched so many lives. She maintained connections with her former students long after their graduation or departure from PCS. Countless Alumni who have come back to visit the School have shared great memories of their time in her classes. She will always be remembered as a teacher who educated generations of successful thinkers, innovators and leaders.

Shellie's funeral service will be held tomorrow (8/10/2026) at noon at the Plaza Jewish Community Chapel, located at 620 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY (corner of 91st Street and Amsterdam Avenue). Given the very short timeframe for this news and making arrangements, it may be difficult for many to attend the service. Let us remember Shellie for the inspiring educator that she was. She shared her passion for literature and writing with all of us and inspired us to think critically, to question the status quo and to always be our best self. We are forever grateful for having had the privilege to know such a remarkable human being. May she Rest in Peace.

An Unforgettable Senior Week! 🎓✨

The Class of 2026 has been creating lasting PCS memories this week. From Decision Day reveals to senior sweatshirts, from late-night laughs at the senior sleepover to decorating graduation caps and our junior/senior prom - last week captured the true spirit of our Class of 2026.

We are going to miss their humor, joy, warmth, and creativity, but we look forward to the remaining weeks before they become members of our alumni community.

Our Advanced Drama class is presenting an original play written by our very own Ms. Sarah Elizabeth Grace. Travel back in time to the 2006-2007 school year on Tuesday, May 19th at 7pm for the public performance and world premiere, full of Millennial nostalgia!
