Brooklyn Bar Association We promote access to the legal system through our Lawyer Referral Service which provides referrals for legal assistance in multiple practice areas.

Established in 1872, the Brooklyn Bar Association’s primary purpose is to promote professional competence among attorneys and increased respect for the legal system. We advance leadership and promote opportunities for success through our networking opportunities and through our sections and committees, which focus on improvements in the practice of law. We provide Continuing Legal Education, which enhances the skills, competence and ethics of our members. Our belief that the administration of justice is achieved through the integrity, honor and courtesy of the members of the legal profession is the foundation of our association.

Estate attorneys can play an important role in helping survivors of 9/11 and their families identify potential benefits.

The Brooklyn Bar Association’s Trusts, Estates & Surrogate’s Court Committee recently hosted Robert Cannata and Robert Grochow, partners at Cannata, Hendele & Cannata, for a webinar on estate practice and the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.

The presenters discussed the importance of early registration, the distinct roles of the World Trade Center Health Program and the Victim Compensation Fund, and the growing significance of claims involving deceased victims. They also emphasized that potential eligibility extends beyond first responders to others exposed in the aftermath of the attacks.

President’s Profile: Daniel R. Antonelli

As we head into September, the Brooklyn Bar Association is preparing for an exciting year of programming, professional development, networking and opportunities to bring Brooklyn’s legal community closer together.

At the center of that work is BBA President Daniel R. Antonelli, who was formally installed as the Association’s president on June 9, 2026.

A trust and estates attorney and managing partner of Antonelli & Antonelli, Dan has built his career helping individuals and families navigate some of life’s most complicated legal and personal circumstances. That experience has shaped a leadership philosophy centered on listening, finding common ground and understanding what people and institutions need in order to move forward.

Since taking office, Dan has spent the summer working to prepare the Association for the year ahead. His vision is focused on strengthening the BBA community, supporting attorneys and the judiciary, expanding opportunities for members, attracting the next generation of Brooklyn lawyers and ensuring that the Association remains a vibrant and meaningful part of Brooklyn’s legal community.

September represents the next stage of that work.

There is a full year ahead, with new programs, events, CLE opportunities, member engagement and initiatives designed to strengthen the connections that make the Brooklyn Bar Association special.

Dan has made clear that this year is about more than one presidency. It is about building an Association positioned to serve its members and Brooklyn’s legal community well into the future.

We are looking forward to what is ahead.
