Salamanca Meets College Prep Students Councilman Rafael Salamanca met with Bronx Lighthouse College Prep Academy students on Friday, June 1.

We have 8 wonderful students who have applied to summer programs through Wishbone and now need help fundraising. Please help them make this a reality! These programs will give them the opportunity to pursue their passions and have transformative experiences. 100% of donations go toward the students' tuition and fees.

Great news! We will be OPEN tomorrow. The temperature in most parts of the building is normal and it is rising in the places that were the coldest so we will be able to safely proceed with classes. This will continue to improve overnight, but I would advise dressing in layers tomorrow so you can be as comfortable as possible in different spaces. During the day there will be some additional work done that will further raise the temperature in the building and make us nice and toasty!

Dear Families & Scholars,

As you know, in this last week we have had problems with the heating system in the College Prep Academy. While a temporary fix was put in place on Thursday to improve the climate in the building, there are still several classrooms that are not at the desired temperature, particularly given the cold weather outside. It is always a tough decision to cancel school, since we do not want to take away from our scholars’ learning time, particularly as we come up on the end of the semester. However, we do want to ensure that we are considering the safety and comfort of our students and staff, and so school will be closed one more day on Monday, January 8. This applies to CPA scholars in grades 9 – 12 only. School will remain open for scholars in grades K – 8.

We anticipate that all necessary parts will arrive tomorrow and the problem will be resolved so that school can resume on Tuesday. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s understanding as we work to resolve the facilities issue.
