🥧 Happy Pi Day, PS11!
Earlier this year, our community came together for a screening of Counted Out, sparking an important conversation about math literacy and how numbers shape opportunity and everyday life.
Following the film, we hosted a thoughtful community conversation with our panelists:
• Dr. Benjamin Blum-Smith, Founder, Math & Democracy Seminar | NYU
• Rasheda Rand, Assistant Principal | PS11, NYC Department of Education
• Dr. Erica Phillips, Professor of Clinical Medicine | Weill Cornell Medicine
The conversation was moderated by Jennifer Bowman, PS11 parent and member of the School Leadership Team (SLT).
As we celebrate Pi Day today, we’re reminded that math helps us understand and engage with the world around us. At PS11, math isn’t just something we learn — it’s something we explore.

🏆 PS11 students bring home the Engineering Excellence Award!
Five PS11 students were part of the FIRST LEGO League team “The All Nighters,” who recently earned the Engineering Excellence Award at the LEGO League Semi-Finals.
We’re so proud of their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving as they explored robotics and engineering.
👏 Amazing work, team!
