A tough SAT question can look completely unfamiliar.

As our tutor Tom explains, though, every question is built from the same core skills students practice throughout their preparation. The challenge is recognizing those familiar building blocks when they appear in a new form.

Once students learn to spot the pieces, even the strangest questions become much easier to approach. ☀️

Do you want to know the secret to a great college essay?

According to our very own Charles Loxton: the story of the

The best personal essays contain three parts: point of view, narrative arc, and values/qualities.

If you’ve been following the Knicks for the past 27 years, they know a thing or two about an arc. Also, go Knicks!

To the Class of 2026: you did it.

Not just the applications, exams, essays, and deadlines, but the growth that happened along the way.

Wherever you’re headed next, remember: this is only the beginning.

Congratulations! 🎓

Our tutors care deeply about their students as people first, earning their trust, building their confidence, and showing up for them at every stage of the process. Behind every score report, acceptance letter, and academic milestone is a relationship built over time.

Your scores are in. Now what?

1️⃣ Take a breath. One test does not define the outcome.

2️⃣ If it wasn’t what you hoped, you’re far from out of options. There are test dates throughout the summer, early fall, and even into December (depending on your timeline and whether you’re applying early). There’s still time to improve, and we can help!

3️⃣ With score choice, you can test more than once and submit your strongest results. This is just one data point.

4️⃣ Use the summer intentionally. Focus on where you struggled, take full-length practice tests, and build real confidence through repetition and review. There are more than enough materials and opportunities to improve.

5️⃣ Talk to your tutor. A clear, targeted plan is what turns a setback into progress.

Work smarter, not harder, AND still enjoy your summer.

One of the biggest SAT mistakes? Trying to do everything in your head.

According to Advantage Testing tutor Visala, students often lose points not because they don’t know the material, but because they rush mental math instead of slowing down and writing it out.

Save this as a reminder before your next practice test! ✍️

It’s never too early to start thinking about independent boarding and high school admissions!

Many families don’t realize how quickly the timeline moves, but we’ve seen how much calmer (and more successful) the process can be with a clear plan in place. Here’s the timeline we typically guide families through, along with the tests that matter at each stage.
