I recently sat down with Mike Grehan to talk about Marketing, AI, & Education on "Live on 65" and one theme kept coming up: We’re not just adapting to change. We’re operating inside it.

A few reflections from that conversation:
1. The half-life of marketing knowledge is shrinking fast: What used to stay relevant for years now evolves in months. The implication is simple: static learning models don’t work anymore. Marketers need to build continuous, hands-on learning into how they operate, not treat it as a separate activity.

2. “AI expertise” isn’t about the tools, it’s about application: There’s a lot of noise around who is (and isn’t) an expert. In reality, the differentiation is showing up in how teams apply AI to real workflows, campaigns, insights, operations, not just experimenting at the edges.

3. Fundamentals still matter, but they’re being rewritten in practice: Core marketing principles haven’t gone away. But AI is reshaping how they’re executed, how we segment, personalize, measure, and optimize. The opportunity is in connecting enduring strategy with new capabilities.

If there’s one takeaway: The advantage isn’t just knowing more, it’s learning faster and applying smarter.

About last night... it was my honor to receive the Apple of Excellence for Advocacy from the Marketing Club of New York (MCNY).

Some highlights from my remarks last night:

No advocacy effort succeeds alone. It takes people who believe that our work can make a difference—and who act on that belief every day.

I’m fortunate to work with exceptional colleagues at EY, inspired by mentors and partners, and consistently re-energized by the students who allow me to play a small role in their journeys. I am privileged to lead the team I have at EY & I do not take my role for granted.

Advocacy in marketing means using our skills not only to sell & advertise, but to elevate voices, expand awareness, and drive progress. We, in this moment, must shape the future of our industry and leave it in better shape than we found it.

Thank you again for this honor — and to everyone who continues pushing, questioning, and using creativity to make our industry more inclusive, more impactful, and more human.

This is a real honor! I'll have more to say in an "acceptance speech" or post here as the event gets closer, but I'm privileged to have such an amazing job at EY where we are truly at the forefront of B2B Marketing. There's so much more to do and years of innovation ahead of us. I'm surrounded by the absolute best & brightest colleagues as we shape the future with confidence.

And I hope my 15+ years of students appreciate me for the small role I may have played in their education & careers. Teaching at Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business, New York University's Stern School of Business, & Yeshiva University's Katz School of Science and Health have enabled me to educate the next generation of Marketers; a role I do not take for granted.

It was fun chatting about everything from my involvement with Fantom Comics to my experiences at Microsoft, Wolters Kluwer, & now EY. In this , you'll get to hear my thoughts on & so much more. Pancreatic Cancer today is almost a death sentence & sadly took my wife's Uncle last year, after a rapid decline in his health. The only hope for a cure, treatments, more time... is research.
