Spotted here at 925 Ninth Ave: our Dragons kicking off the year with the question “What do you want to try?”

Last week, both of our divisions gathered for special assemblies! First up was the Middle School Elective Fair Assembly! Middle School Elective classes are an opportunity for our older Dragons to get involved in activities that inspire their passions or perhaps try new interests! Most importantly, these electives allow them to have greater agency in their learning. From History of Hip-Hop with Mr. Benedek to Silent Movie Club with Mr. Coen, from STEM Competition Elective with Ms. Koralewski to DanceLab with Ms. Buwalda, our students have so many cool electives to try!

Our Lower School Dragons then gathered in the Dining Hall for their first assembly of the year! In this inaugural meeting of our youngest students, it was all about the theme of the year: "Try it!" This theme will have various "editions" and this one was "Try it! Kindness Edition" — our Dragons talked about ways to be kind, danced as "kindness kites", and sang the popular "Lean On Me" to celebrate this theme.

Drawing on their extensive professional expertise as well as their experiences here at Speyer, this dynamic duo held a fascinating conversation with the hosts about giftedness and gifted education. Spotted on the Boulevard: our newest Dragons!

Speyer’s Head of School Dr. Kirsty Montgomery and our Kindergarten students have kicked off the new school year together with something in common: being some of our newest Dragons at 925 Ninth Avenue! Join us in welcoming the newest additions to our community — we can’t wait to see what the year brings!

Last week, we took part in a cherished tradition here at Speyer! On the first Friday of the school year, our faculty and staff gather in the lobby for a photo wearing their Speyer spirit! On the back of this year’s shirt: our beloved crest, the symbol of Speyer and our mission.

It seems fitting that they wear it as they are Speyer. They are the people who bring our school's mission to life every day and who will share their joy and passion with our students in the coming months. We can’t wait to see what the 2026-2027 school year brings!

Soaking up the last seconds of summer!

Speyer’s Deputy Head of School Paul Deards traveled to China for his son’s wedding. He shared with us that the photo of the watch shows how high they were up in the mountains...and that his daughter made him walk down 2,500 feet!
