For APRIL- our bookclub DOSAN HAKDANG has been reading “The Second Chance Convenience Store” (불편한 편의점) by Kim Ho Yeon and translated by . 🍙🥤🏪

In the book, “a millennial turned magical girl must combat climate change and credit card debt in this delightful, witty, and wildly imaginative ode to magical girl manga.”

The book centers around a convenience store owner and a homeless man that finds her wallet, the return of which prompts her to offer the man a meal.  The Second Chance convenience Store has been called a moving and joyful story about a woman fighting for her community and a man who has lost everything, except the will to try again.

It’s a quick read, so you still have time to grab a copy and join us on this Sunday April 26th, 2026 at 2PM Eastern to share a heartwarming story with KCCNYC community!

April is Disability Awareness Month, and it’s a good time to pause and ask a question that doesn’t come up often enough in adoptee spaces: who is not in the room, and why? 👩‍🦼‍➡️🇰🇷🇺🇸

📚Dosan Hakdang Book Club Report:
Han Kang’s We Do Not Part & the Jeju 4.3 Massacre

Today we remember and commemorate the victims of the Jeju 4.3 Massacre, also known as the Jeju 4.3 Uprising.

For March 2026, KCCNYC read Han Kang’s We Do Not Part - a Nobel Prize winning novel, that explores the generational wound of the 4.3 Massacre.

We were honored that Professor Hur Sang Soo of Korea joined the March 29 Dosan Hakdang Book Club for a discussion of Han Kang’s US National Book Critics Circle Award winning novel We Do Not Part, which painfully explores the Jeju 4.3 massacre, started in April of 1948.

How about a Sunday afternoon with some KDrama? ☕️

By Sharon Stern
There is a little bit of everything going on in dramaland this month. We have silly, we have rom-com, we have revenge and thriller and legal with psychological twists. It’s a good month to try out a number of different styles, a number of different streaming sources and see whose storytelling is the most captivating.

03/15/2026

Join our Dosan Hakdang Book Club on March 29 to discuss this month’s selection — WE DO NOT PART by Nobel Prize Winner Han Kang, translated by E. Yaewon and Paige Aniyah Morris — which uses dreamlike imagery to look deeply at generational trauma and the Jeju uprising of 1948.

Our discussion will also include the history of the Jeju 4.3 Uprising - and we look forward to talking about the book with all of you. Sign up at the link in bio.
