New Settlement's College Access Center

New Settlement's College Access Center provides one-to-one college access and success services to high school students and young adults.

Opened in 1990, New Settlement Apartments is a non-profit, mixed-income housing and community service organization with an excellent reputation and an 11-year record of active commitment to neighborhood revitalization, community building and organizing, and positive youth development. New Settlement Community Services currently provide year-round educational, cultural and recreational programs and

social services to over 1,750 youth and adults who live in the surrounding area. The College Access Center at New Settlement Apartments is a free educational and career counseling program. The Center first established during the 1999-2000 school year with the hope of providing families with a range of educational services, moved to its current location in 2002. The Center familiarizes students and parents, beginning in middle school, with the advantages of higher education and with various educational opportunities, both public and private, in New York City. It provides information, direction and support for public, parochial, alternative, academic-comprehensive and vocational high school students, GED candidates, young and mature adults, and the physically challenged and learning disabled. We provide the following services:

•Free college counseling for high school students and adults.

•Free SAT classes.

•Individual assessment of students’ academic record, eligibility for financial assistance, career interest and college related personal concerns.

•Effective assistance with selection of colleges, applications and financial aid to pay for college.

•Internet Access for College and Financial Aid research.

•Extensive databases and library of college catalogues.

•Assistance with High School choice.

•Early Awareness workshops

•FREE college trips

•In addition, we help participants to prepare for college interviews and identify summer opportunities.

•Each year, as part of the college application process, we offer financial aid workshops to our participants and their families.

•We work with students and parents to navigate the public high school selection process, and to identify and apply to various private school scholarships and summer programs
