Lehman College’s innovative Theatre & Dance Programs transform students into versatile, self-directed performing artists of the 21st century. Our liberal arts BA in Theatre & Dance and BFA in Multimedia Performing Arts challenge our students to develop the knowledge and skills as well as the conceptual, critical and creative perspectives necessary for a professional life in the performing arts. We believe that true artists possess broad-based knowledge and skills in their disciplines as well as vision—the conceptual, critical and creative perspectives about themselves, the arts, and the world around them. We believe that theatre and dance artists must collaborate across disciplines and media and must produce their own creative work in order to succeed in the performing arts in the 21st century. That is, theatre and dance artists of the 21st century must perform, write, design, and produce for the stage as well as the related media of film and television. We believe that students must engage with the professional world of theatre and dance in New York City and direct their own careers within the performing arts. We believe that it is our responsibility as faculty and staff to provide our students with the academic courses, creative experiences, and mentorship needed to prepare them for a career in the performing arts profession.
