Trompe l’oeil is a French phrase that literally means “fool the eye.” 👁️

Trompe L’oeil is a painting technique that creates the illusion of three-dimensional objects or scenes on a two-dimensional surface. This is often used to create the impression of real objects or architecture.

This technique can really fool the eye!

In 2013, at Salon St. Petersberg, Pierre was asked to create a large scale ceiling ornament during a live demonstration.

This blog and video shows his steps to create this finish! See link in bio. 🔗

Happy April Fools! This month we are introducing Trompe l’oeil.

Trompe l’oeil is a French phrase that literally means “fool the eye.” 👁️

In decorative painting, trompe l’oeil techniques use the interplay between 💡light and shadow to create an illusion of dimension and depth.

Trompe l’oeil techniques are only used to depict inanimate or stationary objects such as architectural🏠 details and still lifes.

There are six basic categories of trompe l’oeil painting.
1️⃣ Faux Moldings
2️⃣ Grisaille
3️⃣ Polychrome Ornaments
4️⃣ Murals
5️⃣ Trompe L’oeil Paintings
6️⃣ Trompe L’oeil Marquetry

Regardless of the type, trompe l’oeil can be either monochromatic, in which several values of one principle color are used

OR

polychromatic, in which subjects are rendered in several different colors.
