John Eben Whiting
1952 - 2023 In Loving Memory
Bountiful, UT-John Eben Whiting passed away on the 29th of January, 2023 in Bountiful, UT.
He was born on the 22nd day of April, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was the 4th and final child of Joseph Charles Whiting and Dorothy Kathryn Trost Whiting.
John graduated from Brighton High School in 1970. He received a B.F.A. Degree from the University of Utah, a M.A. Degree from Brigham Young University, and did a Doctoral Program at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He also did post graduate work at Northwestern University. John loved teaching, reading, acting, and directing theatre/drama. He taught Drama and English for 35 years, 14 years in Utah and 21 years in New York City.
John retired in 2014 and lived with his husband, Kevin McGuire, from Jersey City, NJ, the two met in 1988. He was an agnostic/humanist who cherished life dearly.
He is survived by one brother, Joseph Charles Whiting of Florida, a half brother, Jeffrey Holden Whiting of Arizona, his two daughters, Liza Michele Whiting, residing in Salt Lake City, UT, Emily Kathryn Whiting, residing in Seattle, WA and his beloved dog, Monty. The one true love of his life in the world was his forever husband Kevin McGuire whom he spent 34 years in his company.
John was preceded in death by both parents at an early age, and brothers, George S. (Judd) Whiting and Jay Douglas Whiting.
His ashes will be deposited in the Pacific Ocean as well as in a memorial at Wasatch Lawn Memorial near his parents in Salt Lake City, UT.
