Hunter College High School (HCHS) is pleased to announce the start of the Fall 2023 application process open to current 6th grade students who are residents of the five boroughs of NYC and who meet the exam eligibility criteria explained below.
The HCHS Entrance Exam will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
Eligible 6th grade students are determined by their performance on their 5th grade NYS Math and ELA exams. An eligible candidate must meet or exceed both of the following scores: Math (622 or higher) and ELA (623 or higher). The DOE will email and mail notifications to public school students who meet this threshold, but eligible candidates are welcome to apply when the admissions application becomes available.
If a 6th grade student did not take the 2022 NYS Math and ELA tests, eligibility may be met by current report card grades (before February 1, 2023) with a minimum of 95 (or equivalent) in both Math and ELA.
School counselors will verify score (or grade) submissions before exam tickets are issued to a candidate. Homeschooled students or students attending schools without grades will be required to provide attestation of performance by their Headmaster or Program Director.
