Each year, 6th Grade ELA students study the works of William Shakespeare, with a particular focus on the comedy "Twelfth Night." As a culmination of their studies, students perform a lively selection of vignettes from the play to delve deeper into the text in a fun and creative way.
Ahead of the performance, students spend time closely analyzing this iconic work of literature, exploring plot developments, the motivations of each character, and recurring thematic elements in order to put on a show that's joyful and informed. Bravo, everyone!

Last week, our Upper School leaders enjoyed a VCS tradition: the 8th Grade Overnight!
Over the course of their trip to D.C., students explored the nation's capital, visited iconic landmarks, and more. Most importantly, the trip served as a celebration of the friendships they've made at VCS, as well as all that's to come as they look towards high school.
We hope everyone had an amazing time!

A core part of our 4th and 5th Grade Music curriculum is our instrumental music program, which provides students with a platform to further express their creativity by learning a woodwind or brass instrument throughout the year.
Last week, students were able to showcase their hard work during two special concerts, demonstrating their commitment to growing as creatives, as well as their love of music. Great job, everyone!
This part of our curriculum is the result of our 2024 Fund-a-Need initiative. Thank you to everyone who supported this effort and helped make even more opportunities for students to explore their sense of self-expression possible!

Bye-bye, butterflies!
In Science, Kindergarteners and 1st Graders have been observing crawling caterpillars as they go through metamorphosis and turn into brilliant butterflies!
After lots of note-taking (and even more patience!) students said farewell to their brightly-colored buddies during a fun butterfly release on our rooftop playground.

Yesterday, five student leaders reflected on their time at VCS during this year's 8th Grade panel!
Held each year, this panel provides families with a better understanding of the arc of our school's K–8 experience by highlighting the voices of those who know it best: our students. Huge thanks to 8th Graders Riley K., Ilana K., Owen L., Blake P., and Mari W. for sharing their perspectives with us!

In 2nd Grade ELA, students have been exploring classic fairy tales and their common elements.
Throughout this fantastical unit, students compare retellings of the same stories (like "The Three Little Pigs" and "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs"), analyzing each text for changes in perspective for different characters. Students also take time to study the ways cultural influences can impact how stories are told by reading various global versions of "Cinderella."
Using their studies as inspiration, young writers crafted original fairy tales, which were performed (with puppets!) by 6th Grade Drama students last week.

What a show!
Yesterday, student musicians treated audiences to a selection of traditional music, pop hits, and more at this year's Spring Concert! 🎶
With each performance, students demonstrated not only how they've grown as artists over the course of this year, but also their love for music and artistry. Bravo, everyone!
