Hi, I’m Liam O’Brien, a New York based (but London born) CELTA-certified ESL teacher with a passion for helping students in their ESL journey.

Prior to teaching communication skills, my career in singing took me right across the globe. I've been fantastically lucky to meet the most amazing people from around the world and that period of my life introduced me to an extraordinary mix of individuals, whom all communicated through their own artistic means.

Having met my wife we moved to New York and I set up Communicate with Confidence. Using the foundations of my voice technique and my professional English Second Language CELTA certification, I now have the privilege of sharing my knowledge with my international network of students, whose confidence in using their own voice has grown in intention and energy.

We understand that speaking a new language can be intimidating, but with an experienced and compassionate instructor and proven teaching methods, you’ll feel comfortable speaking with confidence in no time!

Embracing the Global Village!

We're no longer bound by geographical borders in our professional and personal lives. Work, social interactions, and study are seamlessly transcending borders, creating a truly global community. Communication now spans diverse cultures, making it an integral part of our daily experiences.

While technology has made communication more accessible, it hasn't necessarily made it better. English may be the world's language, but for those to whom it isn't their mother tongue, the challenge of engaging fluently is real. It goes beyond technical proficiency; effective communication requires an understanding of nuance, dialect, tonality, and intonation. These factors influence meaning, and mastering them can be the key to building meaningful relationships.

In my work, I focus on teaching authentic verbal communication in English. It's not just about technical mastery; it's about connecting on a deeper level. Imagine a doctor explaining a serious illness but struggling to connect emotionally with a patient. Or a businessperson navigating negotiations without understanding the nuance.

My goal is to equip students with the skills needed for authentic communication. Through tried and tested techniques, I help them build confidence in their abilities, ensuring they can navigate any situation with ease.
