March 11th, 2020. The day we closed our doors due to COVID-19 and virtual learning became the reality for the rest of the school year. A year later, we look back on how far we’ve come and how our strong our community has been through this journey together:

💙Our phenomenal teachers pivoted to Virtual Learning instantaneously, allow us to be together, even while apart. They continued teaching virtually through the end of the school year with the same enthusiasm and commitment that they started with.

💛Our children demonstrated incredible resilience and flexibility, logging on to Zoom every day with big smiles and an eagerness to participate and learn.

💙Our parents’ and families’ strength, perseverance, and dedication to their children gave our students and teachers the support they needed to push though and keep moving forward.

💛Our staff ensured every safety measure was taken in order for a safe return to in-person learning for all in the Fall.

March 11th, 2021. Today, back in our warm, inviting classrooms with COVID protocols in place, we feel a slight return to normalcy, and know that better days are on the horizon. We are hopeful, we are strong, we are together. Thank you, MLS community, for staying “MLS Strong.”

2021 ready⚡️ School is back tomorrow and we couldn’t be more excited 😀

My Little School will be closed tomorrow, Thursday 12/17, due to the inclement weather ☃️
We will transition to virtual learning for the day, beginning at 9:00am so please have your children bring their VL box with them 📝 ❄️

This week our 3’s friends continued our New York City unit of study. Earlier in the week we took a look at Manhattan and noticed that it is completely surrounded by water💧This can make it extra tricky to leave the Island, but we learned that today we have many bridges 🌉, tunnels and various modes of transportation 🚕🚃 to help us. In a follow up activity our friends worked collaboratively to build their own bridge or tunnel ‘this is going to be the longest tunnel’ - Jonah ✅

After reading “Sofia Valdez, Future Prez,” the held a school wide election. Everyone voted in a secret ballot for a new piece of gym equipment... and the most popular choice was an outdoor dome climber! Hooray, we’re so excited to use it when it arrives!

We’ve been busy working on number recognition in our classroom and at the same time we are strengthening our little hands 🖐🏻 Learning to write by hand takes every child a long time and lots of practice. A large part of it has to do with gaining control over the arm, hand and finger movements that are necessary to form numbers and letters. Tracing helps your practise the skills necessary for writing ✏️ 📋

Our 2’s friends were thrilled to find big and small pumpkins on a neighborhood walk to Whole Foods, and even brought a few back to the classroom! At our Art table we examined pumpkins and gourds with magnifying glasses, drawing our observations with crayons. We noticed their color, shape and size, as well as their textures; we even discovered that yellow and red mixed together make orange, and that bigger pumpkins are heavier than smaller pumpkins 🍂
