Welcoming 5787 together!

From Rosh Hashanah dinners, lunches, yoga, and Tashlich at Riverside Park to a special “Russia Shanah” celebration hosted by our Russian Speaking Jews group and delivering holiday packages to older adults with DOROT, our students marked the New Year through tradition, community, and service.

As we approached Yom Kippur, students explored healing and renewal through a kintsugi-inspired art workshop, then gathered for meaningful services, pre-fast meals, and festive break-fasts, including a special gathering at Hex&Co.

From undergraduate students to our Grad Network community, these High Holidays were filled with joy. Shana Tova!

On the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and the first night of Rosh Hashanah, Columbia/Barnard Hillel students visited our local FDNY station to deliver dinner, express their gratitude, and show their support. Students wrote heartfelt thank-you letters honoring the firefighters' courage and daily sacrifice for the New York City community.

As we remember and reflect, we’re grateful for those who continue to serve and protect our city every day.

At the Kraft Center for Jewish Student Life, we believe every student deserves to feel proud, safe, and seen in their Jewish identity.

Ahead of Columbia and Barnard Move In, we launched Own Your Star, an initiative that gifted Jewish Star necklaces to incoming students who wanted to wear their Jewish pride visibly and confidently on campus.

It was so much fun welcoming the Class of 2030 to campus yesterday as part of Columbia Move In day. We loved meeting so many new students and introducing them and their families to the Columbia/Barnard Hillel community.
