Our mission: To make the best use of our unique skills as neurologists and neuroscience researchers to improve the health of the members of our surrounding communities, and to make the discoveries that will lead to even better health outcomes in the future! Our story: Based at The Mount Sinai Hospital in the East Harlem neighborhood of New York City, the PAIRED Project traces its origins to the Mount Sinai NeuroAIDS Program (MSNAP). MSNAP was founded in the 1990s with the goal of improving the lives of people living with neurologic complications of HIV by integrating research, patient care, education, and outreach to our diverse local community. Fortunately as HIV treatment advanced, most neurologic complications of HIV became less common and we broadened our focus to become the PAIRED Project. Now, we serve several communities from people living with HIV, to people with osteoarthritis, and even to people with complications from diabetes!
