Our students had a fantastic day yesterday learning about nonprofit careers in the arts! Students got a behind-the-scenes look at a venue in motion, as a small army of staff and vendors prepared for an event, doing everything from tuning pianos and testing the sound system to inflating balloons and setting tables. There was also a battery replacement for the automatic flush sensor on a toilet, which the GM used to illustrate the range of his responsibilities. 🎶

Students were able to watch the live recording process of this morning’s broadcast, then ask questions to the entire staff and guest speaker, take a tour of the entire facility, and listen to an informative lecture about reporting and why framing, independent journalism, and critical media literacy are so vital. They had a great time, learned a lot, and Democracy Now was eager for us to bring more students in the future!
