Una carta de nuestro, Director Ejecutivo, Roderick Jones sobre la injusticia racial:

Estimado personal y participantes de Goddard Riverside,

Goddard Riverside es sinónimo de equidad, justicia y libertad para todas las personas. Nos paramos con la comunidad negra en toda nuestra cuidad y nuestro país que literalmente están luchando por sus vidas.

En tiempos dificiles como este, las personas necesitan expresar su dolor, enojo e indignación. Honramos esa expresión y con la esperanza que sirva como catalizador para un cambio real.

Lamentamos las vidas perdidas y todo el daño que el racismo ha causado y sigue causando.

El racismo es un cáncer en nuestra nación. Acorta vidas y le roba a las personas su futuro. Mientras señala a algunos por opresión, nos duele a todos al privar a la Sociedad de la medida mas completa de sus capacidades.

La ciudad de Nueva York se enorgullece juntamente de su diversidad. Respeto y sensibilidad a la diversidad y la individualidad es parte del tejido de esta cuidad. Sin embargo, como ciudad podemos y debemos hacer más para apoyar un trato justo y equitativo para los negros.

Le pedimos al Alcalde y al Ayuntamiento que condenen clara e inequívocamente la violencia policial. Mientras nos damos cuenta de que algunas personas están utilizando las protestas para causar destrucción, llamamos a la policía a evitar castigar a las masas de manifestantes y, en su lugar, centrarnos en la prevención de daños a nivel individual. También nos unimos a nuestras casas de asentamiento para pedir a nuestra ciudad que vuelva a dedicar una parte del presupuesto policial al apoyo comunitario, los servicios sociales y la educación.

Goddard Riverside se esfuerza todos los días para celebrar y apoyar vidas negras. Reafirmamos que Las Vidas Negras Importan y nos dedicamos nuevamente a poner fin al racismo en esta ciudad y este país.

Esperamos que todos los neoyorquinos se unan a nosotros para ayudar a hacer de esta una ciudad que realmente eleve a todos sus residentes. Es por esto que hacemos lo que hacemos. Tan afligidos como estamos, ahora es el momento de duplicar nuestros esfuerzos para crear una sociedad justa y equitativa.

A Letter from our Executive Director, Roderick Jones, on Racial Injustice:

Dear Goddard Riverside Staff Members,

Goddard Riverside stands for equity, justice and freedom for all people. We stand with the black community throughout our city and our country who are literally fighting for their lives.

In difficult times like this, people need to express their pain, anger and outrage. We honor that expression and hope it serves as a catalyst for real change.

We grieve for the lives lost and all the harm racism has caused and continues to cause.

Racism is a cancer on our nation. It shortens lives and robs people of their futures. While it singles out some for oppression, it hurts all of us by depriving society of the fullest measure of their capabilities.

New York City justly prides itself on its diversity. Respect for and sensitivity to diversity and individuality are part of the fabric of this city. However, as a city we can and must do more to support fair, equitable, and just treatment of Black people.

We ask the Mayor and City Council to clearly and unequivocally condemn police violence. We ask them to put a halt to aggressive policing of this uprising. While realizing that some people are using the protests to wreak destruction, we call on the police to avoid punishing masses of protesters and instead focus on harm prevention at the individual level. We also join our fellow settlement houses in calling on our city to rededicate a portion of the police budget to community support, social services and education.

Goddard Riverside strives every day to celebrate and support black lives. We reaffirm that Black Lives Matter and rededicate ourselves to ending racism in this city and this country.

We hope all New Yorkers will join us in helping to make this a city that truly uplifts all of its residents. This is why we do what we do. As heartbroken as we are, now is the time to double down on our efforts to create a fair and just society.
