Is your product a Design Category fit?

Somewhere in your catalog is a product that belongs on the Beacon Awards stage. That's exactly what the Product Design category is for.

It celebrates the product itself: fixtures, controls, hardware, anything you've designed and brought to market, judged on form, function, and aesthetics. Winners are recognized at the Beacon Awards ceremony and featured in the winners' announcement, put directly in front of the designers, architects, and specifiers who make up the DLFNY community.

If you've got a product worth talking about, this is the room to put it in.
Submissions close September 16, with entry fees increasing as the deadline approaches.

Each year, the DLFNY Beacon Awards Committee recognizes one outstanding individual, studio, or firm with the ICON Award. This year, we are proud to honor Dan Blitzer.

Dan has enjoyed a remarkable career in lighting spanning more than 40 years. He began as an architectural salesperson for Lightolier in Northern California before moving east into specification sales. He later became Vice President of Marketing, traveling the country and helping shape one of the industry's most influential lighting brands.

In 1993, Dan founded The Practical Lighting Workshop, a consultancy responsible for developing application guides, product catalogs, presentations, video scripts, a history of Lightolier, and training materials that have educated and influenced lighting professionals across the industry.

In 2003, he began a 16-year tenure teaching at the Philips Lighting Application Center, while continuing to lead his consultancy and mentor lighting professionals from across North America.
In 2008, Dan joined the research and reporting team for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's (PNNL) Next Generation Luminaires and Light Systems program (later Lighting Systems), a collaboration that continued for 15 years. In 2023, he joined The Lighting Agora, a consortium dedicated to continuing education, and also began teaching at the New York School of Interior Design.

Dan's commitment to the lighting community extends well beyond his professional career. He has served on the DLENY Board of Managers for more than four decades, including two terms as President. Today, he serves as the on-camera interviewer for the IESNYC History Committee and as President of the Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education.

A Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), Dan has also been honored with the IES Distinguished Service Award and the Edison Report Lifetime Achievement Award-recognition of a career dedicated to advancing the lighting profession through leadership, education, and service.
Please join us on October 14 at the 3rd Annual Beacon Awards as we celebrate Dan Blitzer and his extraordinary contributions to our industry. We look forward to honoring Dan in person!
