Chasing Rabbits — Please join us for a conversation with Focus Lighting Principal JP Lira about the design for Chasing Rabbits, a 10,000sf entertainment complex in Vail, CO.

With interiors by Rockwell Group, the space includes a restaurant, theater, library, arcade, and speakeasy. As you will learn, these distinct venues are individually enriched with carefully curated lighting treatments that not only enhance each room but also bring an overall cohesiveness to the project.

The lighting at Chasing Rabbits has won several awards, including a Lumen Award of Merit and the 2024 Beacon Award of Excellence for Hospitality.

– This Thursday –
Penn Station 7th Avenue Entries

Join us for a tour of the Penn Station LIRR Entrance Hall, where we will explore the technical aspects behind the transformative lighting with HLB Lighting Design. The tour will examine the design of the dynamic luminous ceiling surrounding the new oculus entrance at 33rd Street.

Key features include color-changing panels and animations programmed to reflect seasonal and holiday themes, which are all balanced by general illumination to ease the transition into the underground station as visitors enter and travel through the newly widened concourse with raised ceilings throughout.

We will also discuss how the lighting system is designed to withstand water leaks from the street above and accommodate the various layers of renovation at Penn Station. This revitalized space now offers a visually compelling and uplifting environment, guiding thousands of commuters through a modern gateway to NYC.

Located in the heart of NYC’s theatre district in the midst the visual cacophony of Times Square, Touro University’s new flagship campus needed to be easily identifiable. The lighting design creates a bold, yet dignified lobby environment that is highly visible to passersby.

Attendees will learn about contrast ratio, color rendering, color temperature, as well the context of a project. Illuminance meters will be used by volunteers who will measure various lighting levels both inside the lobby space, as well as illuminance levels outside while standing in Times Square.

The DLFNY, the IESNYC, and IALDNY are once again collaborating on this exhibition featuring the artistic side of the NYC lighting design industry. The event will feature a cocktail reception with arts, crafts, music, paintings, and photography – the things that keep us up at night after we’ve turned off the lights at our offices and job sites. It’s a fun and surprising way to see the hidden talents of your friends and associates in the industry, and a wonderful way for the lighting community to celebrate itself.
