Catching up on June news!
June 3rd was a day filled with achievement, recognition, and remembrance. The full spectrum of what makes our school extraordinary: excellence in the arts, excellence in academics, and a deep respect for those who built the foundation upon which we stand.
For the first time in school history, our Senior Band, Jazz Band, 7th Grade Band, and Junior Band all earned Gold with Distinction at NYSSMA, the highest rating possible. Congratulations to our talented student musicians and a special thank you to Ms. Britt, whose leadership, passion, and dedication have helped elevate the IS 318 music program to new heights. 🎶🏆🎺
We also celebrated our 8th grade students who achieved academic excellence and were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. Their diligence, perseverance, and scholarship are an inspiration to us all. 📚⭐
And in a moving tribute, the street outside our school was officially renamed Fortunato ‘Fred’ V. Rubino Way, honoring the late Principal and Superintendent whose vision and leadership helped shape generations of IS 318 students and families.

Ever wonder why one child can keep track of assignments, start homework without a battle, and somehow remember to bring their violin, gym clothes, and permission slip… while another can’t find their backpack? 😄
The answer often isn’t intelligence.
It’s Executive Function Skills.
These are the skills that help our children plan, organize, manage time, stay focused, regulate emotions, and follow through on tasks. They are the invisible superpowers behind success in school, sports, music, friendships, and eventually careers.
The good news? Executive Function Skills can be taught and strengthened.

The Knicks weren’t the only champions this weekend. 🏆
⚽ Our 318 Boys Kickball Team captured the NYC Championship at Columbia University under the leadership of Coach Puccio and Coach Williams. A tremendous accomplishment and a testament to their perseverance all season long.
🏃♀️🏃♂️ Columbia University also hosted the NYC Middle School Track & Field Championships, where our boys and girls teams proudly represented 318 under the guidance of Coach Ackerman and Coach O’Brien. The inaugural season of our track program continues to build momentum and school pride.
♟️ And our Chess Team enjoyed a successful fundraising outing at the Brooklyn Cyclones game in Coney Island, bringing together students, families, and supporters for a great evening.
As the great Vince Lombardi said, “The price of success is hard work, dedication, and determination.” This weekend, 318 put those values on full display.
Now go have an amazing Monday!

Here’s to the teachers who shape minds, build character, and quietly change the lives of our children every day.
We appreciate them daily and today the PTA with the help of several parents provided our amazing teachers with a breakfast to show our gratitude for teaching and nurturing our children. ❤️
