Leadership challenges don’t always happen on a predictable timeline, and school leaders often need support while navigating real-time decisions and changes within their schools and systems.

Through the New Leaders alumni community, leaders have access to just-in-time support that reflects the realities of their work and the evolving nature of school leadership. By staying connected to opportunities for growth alongside fellow educators, alumni continue developing their practice and sustaining their impact over time.

For many school leaders, some of the most meaningful learning happens alongside peers who understand the realities, challenges, and opportunities of the work.

In this blog, we explore the power of cohort-based learning through the experience of New Leaders alum Dashe Rowland, who reflects on her community of peers and coaches, and how they continue to support her beyond the program.

Experiences like these inform the National Aspiring Principals Fellowship®, where educators engage in practice-based learning, coaching, and collaborative growth designed to prepare leaders for the principal role. Visit link in our comments to read the full blog.

Self-awareness is a critical part of effective school leadership, and it starts with understanding how your leadership is experienced by others.

In this blog, we explore how leaders can strengthen self-awareness through structured feedback, intentional listening, and regular reflection. We also unpack why blind spots exist in leadership, and how identifying them can help build stronger trust and more aligned school communities.

Pursuing school leadership can feel complex, especially when the path from educator to principal is unclear. The National Aspiring Principals Fellowship® offers a structured pathway for aspiring principals exploring that next step.

Throughout the program, fellows stay in their current roles, receive one-on-one coaching from experienced school leaders, and join a nationwide cohort of peers. Support is built into every stage, helping educators grow while continuing to serve their school communities.

At New Leaders, we know that leadership training is most effective when it is grounded in the realities of leading schools today.

The National Aspiring Principals Fellowship® puts that into practice by embedding leadership development in real school settings. Through hands-on practice, reflection, and meaningful feedback, Fellows strengthen the skills needed to navigate challenges and create lasting impact for students.

System-level change starts with how leadership is developed.

In Arlington Independent School District, New Leaders worked with leaders to deepen their capacity while reinforcing a more consistent approach to leadership across schools. Feedback from district leadership showed that impact was evident quickly at both levels: stronger individual leadership practice and greater alignment across the system.
