While your portfolio showcases your artistic skills, your writing sample gives colleges insight into how you think, reflect, and communicate your ideas. Strong writing can help admissions reviewers better understand your creative process, inspirations, and personal voice.
Whether you‘re writing an artist statement, project description, or supplemental essay, authenticity is key. Focus on your experiences, your curiosity, and what drives your creativity rather than trying to write what you think colleges want to hear.
Swipe through for our tips on creating stronger writing samples for your art school applications.

People often focus on the final outcome, the acceptance letters and the schools our students attend.

What matters just as much is the growth that happens along the way.

At Oogie Art, we help students develop stronger ideas, make intentional creative choices, and build portfolios that reflect their unique voice. Our Student Highlights celebrate not only where students go, but who they become throughout the process.

“I can’t stop thinking about painting.” At some point, art stops being just an assignment. Students begin to see the world differently: every object becomes light, shadow, structure, color, and composition.

That is the moment real artistic growth begins.

At Oogie Art, we don‘t just teach students how to draw. We train them to see, think, and break the boundaries of conventional art.
