Rope Access is a team sport. To accomplish the mission everyone needs to be briefed and have a good understanding of what is to occur. Contingencies for emergencies need to be built in. Anyone near the edge needs to have edge restraint. The team leader needs to lead and not get involved with hands on skills.

Photos are from a recent Tactical Rope Access Course where the team had to send team members down to accomplish a complex mission.

Have an emergency/improvised option for moving a casualty in a vertical environment when you have limited gear. The HALO harness has been taught for years, using 1” tubular webbing as a full body harness. We teach this during tactical rope access courses and small team rural tactics. It is a proven emergency go-to and every class the attendees will tie the harness on an instructor and lower or raise him. The first photos and video shows an Italian Hitch on the attachment carabiner and a controlled lower from the ground person. In the second video the team used 1” tubular webbing as the haul line as that is all they had.

Tactical teams- “All of it matters. Fitness, mobility, combatives, shooting, decision making, composure, focus, confidence, readiness. Always keep training, never stop learning, prepare for the fight and remember the mission.”

Edge Pro products are essential for rope access work. They have new “Tactical Series” that we are looking forward to using in our trainings. Yesterday we ran an Urban Escape class in San Diego. Unfortunately the Strep gear just came in so we were not able to try any of it out. Greg, one of our instructors, had already purchased a “Magna sleeve”- magnetic closure 24” sleeve. It worked very well. We’ll put out performance updates on this new gear.

The Small Team Rural Tactics Course encompasses as many aspects for hunting man as we can and based on your team’s capabilities. As well as searching for fugitives, this course is good for teams that have to approach remote rural locations perhaps for a warrant service.

Any attachments should be included in the training- snipers, K9, TEMS, Casevac platforms like helicopters, night vision and drones can all be included in the training.

Contact us to schedule a course for your team or join an open course. References upon request.

Interesting training problem. The team responds to a shooting, suspect was injured by patrol and has fallen off the road. Priorities- cover the suspect, Access-send a team over the side, take into custody and Secure on hillside, assess and treat injuries (Stabilize), Extricate back up to the road and handoff to EMS (Evacuate).

The team used the Lenco Bearcat for cover and also as an artificial high directional (AHD) for lowering and hauling.

Instructor Bob lent his expertise and oversight of the training.

Never stop training. Think outside the box.

Tactical Rope Access has many different concepts to train at. Make the time to train regularly.
