The scholars at Democracy Prep Pathways decided to spread some holiday cheer to children who are spending time in the hospital. They wrote them encouraging holiday cards and created ornaments for the recipients to decorate their rooms! @ East Harlem

Democracy Prep at the Agassi Campus’s Elementary School scholars collected over 850 pairs of socks to donate during their winter sock drive! The donations will go to , a nonprofit organization that provides “help and hope to the homeless and hurting men, women and children of Las Vegas”.

Harlem Prep Elementary and Harlem Prep High each organized canned food drives to support families struggling against food insecurity this holiday season. Combined, they donated nearly one ton of nonperishable items! @ East Harlem

For the past week, the scholars of Democracy Prep Charter Middle have been partnering with their co-located school, PS 197, to host their fourth annual Holiday Canned Food Drive. Combined, the two schools donated over 1000 nonperishable items! is striving to hold the city’s largest food drive—their goal is 1 MILLION pounds of food. This is extremely important, as there are nearly 1.2 million New Yorkers who struggle to put food on their tables. @ Central Harlem

Earlier in the month, scholars in Mr. McCrory’s art class at Freedom Prep Elementary used their artistic skills to enhance our Get Out the Vote tradition by creating these beautiful and powerful signs! During one of his lessons, Bronx Prep science teacher, Mr. Washington, explained to his scholars how some cities in the US (and countless others around the world) don’t have reliable access clean water. After hearing this, his scholars were inspired to organize a clean water drive to help address this problem. They created informational videos to raise awareness, then collected over 1,000 bottles of water and donated them to the Newark Water Colalition ()!
