Brooklyn For Peace is proud to endorse “Standing Together: A Walk and Vigil with September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows,” marking the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Join us this Thursday, September 10, at Union Square for a 5 PM program, followed by a 6 PM walk to Ground Zero and a silent vigil.

We encourage our members and followers to join September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows in remembering those lost and standing together for peace.

Brooklyn For Peace friends and members have stood on the busy Downtown Brookllyn corner of Flatbush Avenue and Hanson Place virtually every Saturday since January. Begun when Trump attacked Venezuela and kidnapped its President and his wife, the vigil was expanded as Trump expanded his militaristic attacks by starting a war, along with Israel, against Iran, bombing its cities, killing thousands of civilians and forcing tens of thousands of innocents out of their homes. His stated aim was to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. That, despite his own intelligence agencies repeated statements in opposition to that lie. He forced a closing of the important Hormuz Strait and then demanded its opening, trying to solve a "problem" of his own making. At the same time, the U.S. continued to send billions of dollars of weapons to Israel so that, despite a supposed cease fire, it could continue its genocidal war against Gaza. And Trump's war on Iran was expanded by Israel invading and attacking Lebanon in an obvious attempt to, again, expand its territory. Lately, the war is widening as other nations are sucked into the malestrom.
Trump has accomplished a lot! —he has created a dangerous tinder box of expanding war in the Mid East, killing thousands and destabilizing the region all while driving oil and food prices to all time highs.

So the Vigil, which started as a protest on the Venezuela invasion, became a vigil opposing Trump's policies not only in Latin America (Venezuela and then the criminal oil blockade to strangle Cuba) but in the Mid East and beyond.

At the same time, ICE turned up its murderous invasion of our cities and the vigil, thus, took a stand against the Trump policy at home as well.

★★ We are suspending our Vigil for the rest of August
and look forward to reengaging our neighbors on behalf of peace and justice this September, after Labor Day.

Peace Groups Mark The 81st Anniversary of the Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki With A Demand: Abolish Nuclear Weapons Now!

On Sunday, August 2nd at 2pm, a coalition of citizens and peace activists gathered on the steps of the NYC Public Library (on 42nd St and 5th Ave) to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombings and express international solidarity for a more peaceful future coupled with a demand for complete abolition of nuclear weapons which threaten life on earth.

They affirmed a commitment to justice for all victims of the U.S. bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and to express solidarity with their counterparts in Japan and Korea who have been advocating for nuclear abolition for decades.

Sponsors included The Manhattan Project for a Nuclear-Free World, Pax Christi New York State, Peace Action New York State, NYC War Resisters League, NYC Metro Raging Grannies, Veterans for Peace – NYC Chapter 34, Brooklyn For Peace.

Jul 25, 2026 Once again, Brooklyn For Peace folks stood, as they have almost every Saturday since January, at the corner of very busy Flatbush Avenue and Hanson Place, as a visible sign of opposition to Trump and his foreign and domestic agenda of wars, cuts to human services, and attacks on our neighbors because of their national origin and skin color.
Please join us this Saturday, August 1st at 2:00 pm.
Stand for one hour to SAY NO TO WAR and INJUSTICE.
