What an incredible day at CUNY/UA’s first-ever AI Forum. 🤖📚

Educators, leaders, counselors, and partners from across our district came together to explore one powerful question: How do we harness AI in ways that strengthen teaching, learning, and opportunity for students?

From practical classroom applications to ethical questions, from differentiated instruction to college and career readiness, today’s conversations were thoughtful, honest, and deeply inspiring.

A few big takeaways:
✨ Keep teaching and learning at the center
✨ Human expertise matters more than ever
✨ AI should strengthen, not replace, great educators
✨ Curiosity, caution, and creativity must go hand in hand

One question that stayed with us:
“If AI can complete this task, what am I asking students to do that AI cannot?”

This is just the beginning. We are learning together, innovating together, and shaping a future where technology serves students with purpose and care.

Huge gratitude to our presenters, panelists, partners, and every educator who leaned in today. Your leadership is helping define what responsible, student-centered AI can look like in CUNY/UA schools.

Science PL participants dove deep today into word study, non-linear reading strategies using charts and graphs, and self-directed synthesis of learning.

Kudos to this incredible group for cultivating such an inquisitive, innovative learning space all year long. So many powerful ideas were shared, along with meaningful examples of how participants are applying text engineering and other aspects of District LCIV across classrooms and teams.

The collaboration, curiosity, and commitment to growth in this space continue to inspire. # TextEngineering InnovativeTeaching LiteracyInAction

Grateful for powerful collaboration with Dr. Carolyn Durante! Together, we designed a turnkey presentation to support intervention teachers in leading their colleagues through the core practices behind Phonics for Reading, REWARDS, and STARI—especially as many of our schools implement these for the first time.

It was inspiring to engage CUNY/UA high school leaders in NYC around aligning Tier 1 and Tier 3 literacy work. Excited to see how this learning translates into stronger, more confident instruction for all students.

✨ Central had a special guest today at Literacy Leads! ✨

We were proud to welcome Selin Alincanoglu, Principal of Maspeth High School, who joined a panel of school leaders to share her powerful approach to literacy intervention.

Selin highlighted how Maspeth is intentionally designing reading intervention programs rooted in our district’s priorities and values—ensuring all students have access to rigorous, targeted support that builds independence and confidence as readers. 📚

Her insights on aligning strategy, data, and instruction were a strong reminder of what’s possible when leadership is grounded in purpose and student success.

👏 Thank you, Selin, for sharing your learnings and successes with our community!

📚✨ Early Career Principals in Action ✨📚

Grounded in purpose. Focused on impact. Committed to growth.

Today, our early career principals engaged in deep, meaningful learning—reading and discussing research on managing stress as leaders while unpacking key instructional memos that drive our work forward.

This wasn’t just about reading. It was about sense-making and alignment.

🔍 Together, leaders:
• Reflected on how leadership stress impacts decision-making and school culture
• Unpacked memos to identify the instructional throughline—what must be understood at every level, from central to classroom
• Discussed how to translate this learning into high-quality professional learning for staff
• Explored NYCPS guidance on AI and what it means for teaching, learning, and leadership in our schools

💡 The focus: ensuring that what we say, plan, and implement is coherent, intentional, and impactful for students.

Strong systems. Clear vision. Aligned leadership.

Because when leaders learn together, schools move forward—together.

✨We’re standing at the intersection of seasons, honoring the close of Ramadan for many in our community and welcoming the Spring Equinox, longer days, warmer light, and renewed energy. One of the highlights of the week was coming together on Tuesday to deepen our collective capacity around reading fluency. Grounded in the science of reading and neuroplasticity, we were reminded of something powerful. Growth is not fixed. With the right conditions, strong instruction, and persistence, both students and teachers can and will grow. It was energizing to reconnect to both the why and the how of this work. Here’s to new beginnings, renewed purpose, and continued growth together 🌸📚
