Third Street Music School Settlement Official page of Third Street Music School and Third Street Preschool The nation's longest running community music and dance school.

Founded in 1894, Third Street Music School Settlement has provided high quality music instruction to New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds. Today, we serve more than 5,000 students age 3 months to 97 by offering individual and group instruction, ensembles, a preschool, and other workshops.

Thanks to a generous donor, Third Street is accepting scholarship applications for our music therapy program for students on the autism spectrum.

Complete the intake form at ThirdStreet.nyc and help us learn more about your goals, preferences, background, and support needs, as well as consideration for financial support.

Scholarships are being awarded on a rolling basis through December 2026.

The music is back! First week done, but your chance to make music with us is not over.

Placement auditions are being accepted for our youth orchestras. Seven groups are available, from introduction to orchestra to advanced symphony levels.

For example, students can join our ISO at Third Street Carnegie Hill Beginner/Intermediate Orchestra on Mondays at 5:15pm and learn how to roar!

ABOUT the Trial Class Mash-Up!

Cady Finlayson will introduce you to both the world of fiddle styles and strings improv at this 1-hour musical tour. Experience what each class offers and why adding a different way to explore your string instrument enhances your abilities and musical enjoyment.

ABOUT Fiddle Styles

Fiddle Styles for Strings is a group learning experience focused on lively tunes and new bowing techniques while exploring global fiddle styles, including Celtic music.

Open to all Third Street string instruments and students age 8-18, with at least one year of instrument experience.

ABOUT Strings Improv Lab

Strings Improv Lab is a group learning experience centered on improvisation that guides musicians to explore their creativity and make their own music.

Open to all Third Street string instruments for musicians aged 8-18 with at least one year of experience playing their instrument.

In this class, string players will learn to create music on the spot that expresses an emotion or tells a story. Students will acquire skills to play along with any song and feel more comfortable in classical performances.

No improvising experience is necessary, only a desire to play and create!

The start-of-school annual piano department info meeting is this Saturday at 1:15pm.

The entire Third Street piano community is invited to learn about piano ensemble programs, register for the free Piano Certificate Program, get tips for students in beginner lessons, learn Suzuki program details, and most of all, learn how to support your piano student in their musical journey.

No RSVP necessary. Just bring your heart and soul for making music.

Meet the 2026-2027 class: Donovan, Aurora, Max, Arwen, Chloe, Jooahn, Jessie, Casey, David, and Chelsea. Each is a Third Street student, and each is a perfect ambassador for the empowering power of an arts education.
