🎉Congratulations to our Executive Director, Rachel Watts on being selected to champion nonprofits in NYC governance!
📰 “Every day, in every borough, New Yorkers are interacting with nonprofit organizations, whether you are an older adult at a community center socializing with friends, a person with a disability receiving vocational training to help secure employment, or a family receiving navigation support to access various benefit programs,” said Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Anne Williams-Isom. “Nonprofits play a vital role in our network of support for individuals, children, and families and they must have a seat at the table. The Nonprofit Advisory Council is an important mechanism to ensure regular and open dialogue between government and the sector, and ultimately drive towards our shared goal — to support every individual, child, and family to thrive.”

This is Film TRaC (Teen Reviewers & Critics) one of the FREE programs we run at ArtsConnection Teen Programs. 🎥✨
For this first session of the spring season, we partnered with theAfrican Film Festival, Inc.. to screen Eyimofe (This Is My Desire) by twin brothers, Arie and Chuko Esiri. Arie Esiri sat for a 30-minute Q&A with the teens following the movie and began by asking the teens "what interest they had in film". Most of the 15 teens want to be cinematographers, a few want to be directors and/or writer/director powerhouses, and one dreams of set design. The teens asked truly inquisitive questions about process, setting, choice, and budget which made this session feel like a college seminar.
At ArtsConnection, we invite teens to explore, engage, and connect with the arts. This is one example of the many ways we execute this mission and are thrilled when such opportunities coincide with initiatives like the 92NY's Teen Arts Week which was featured in the NY Times “What to Do in New York City in March” article! 📰

Multidisciplinary artist Manuel Acevedo presents “The Altered Sites” series, a collection of original photographs of places and monuments that have been changed, removed, restored, etc. using a variety of interventions. Guests are to consider the imaginative possibilities of a given place through image or object, and transform it, if only superficially. During the open studio exhibition, participants are invited to alter a set of local photographs by drawing/collage on the surface and consider the current space, site, and status quo as it could be otherwise.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14 @ 3:30PM
Composer Truth Future Bachman, in collaboration with Logan Fischer, the senior gardener on Governors Island, will present a suite of songs that allows audiences to interact with the unique natural habitat on Governors Island through a sense of play, adventure, and connection to the land.

Support Remote Arts Learning
ArtsConnection is one of the oldest arts education organizations in New York City for a reason: for over 42 years, its gathering of educators, artists, and New Yorkers who care has been determined to connect students with the arts no matter what else was going on around the globe or in our city. Now, as the world reels at this uncertain time, we are still at the forefront of arts education in New York City, digitally connecting students and their families to vital arts programming. The day after the mayor announced schools would be closing, we were on Zoom devising ways to continue our arts programs, providing consistency and creating community along the way. We’re working tirelessly to bring dance, theater, visual arts, music and more to NYC kids and the larger global community. We’re supporting young creators with top-notch arts instruction and the social emotional learning the arts so deftly offers that is so important now. We’re there because we care.
We know you care too. We can only keep supporting NYC kids if you support us. Put your care into action by helping us keep children, teens, schools and families #WeAreArtsConnected — Click on the donate button above to give today!
