Congratulations to the many who presented on their research at ! From on the campus to community-centered managed retreat, the breadth of these projects beautifully showcased the interdisciplinary work our students bring with them to .

Things are happening in Marshak 923! The Biolab featuring our small scale is getting a big upgrade. Soon everyone will be able to compost on campus and feed our larger vermicomposter setup (first photo). Right now, we are laying the bedding with everything from the boxes the soil came in to collected rollers from doggy p**p bags! We will be able to give out compost for home soon too. Stay tuned for more!

Moments from our Wearable Waste Workshop held last week! Congrats to Ezra and Abby on a successful event discussing waste colonialism and then transforming waste into transformative art.

Join us for a hands-on mask-making workshop led by artist, sustainability manager, and CCNY Urban Sustainability alumna Abby Manwiller, where we will transform recyclables into wearable art. Using metal, plastic, and paper, participants will create expressive masks while exploring how waste connects to climate justice, environmental justice, and waste equity. Through creative play and conversation, we’ll reflect on who carries the burdens of consumption and disposal—and transform everyday discards into bold statements about the systems behind what we throw away.
No art experience needed—materials + light refreshments provided! Plus, we’ll have a photobooth so you can pose and show off your mask creations 📸

Come celebrate at City College! Sustainable CCNY and Benny’s Food Pantry are hosting a tree giveaway and planting with NYRP in the Quad on April 22nd 1-3PM in the Campus Quad for the campus community and Harlem community. Reserve your tree by scanning the QR code, while supplies last!

The CCNY Community is invited to join us for Earth Week Volunteering in St. Nicholas Park with Historic Harlem Parks on Friday, April 24th from 10AM to noon. Tasks will include cleaning out the garden bed and cobblestone swale in preparation for Spring. No experience necessary; gloves and tools provided. Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes.

Congratulations to all of the Sustainability Graduate Students who presented on their capstone and independent study research yesterday. Thirteen projects presented in total, representing the wide range of interdisciplinary work in our Masters Program.
