Science time! It can be argued that there are some real psychological phenomena that support the idea of “manifestation.” This neuroscientist 👩🏼‍🔬 would cite perceptual priming and inattentional blindness— both are studied effects of the brain 🧠 where your expectations, focus, or beliefs lead you to see an otherwise ambiguous situation in a biased way. By seeing the cues that align with your confirmation bias, and unconsciously ignoring other information, you end up making micro-decisions that end up bringing you closer to your goal.

Science time! ☢️ Can radiation from your phone 📱 give you CANCER? Short answer, no (American Cancer Society). BUT, it can stress your cells out by raising the temperature by several degrees 🌡️ The male reproductive system 🍒 is especially sensitive to these temperature changes, and it’s thought that phones and laptops 👨‍💻 are the main reason for rising infertility rates 🫃(Kaur, Rei, & Singh, 2023)

Science time! Do you feel like you get slower & less productive in the summer months? One of the reasons for this might be the literal temperature you live, work, and sleep in. All different types of cognitive performance like reading comprehension, math abilities, memory, concentration, and processing speed degrade ten to fifteen percent in temps above 78 degrees Fahrenheit (Yeganeh et al, 2018; Pilcher, Nadler, & Busch, 2002). On hot days, students score lower on standardized tests (Park, 2018), and uhh… mental health related emergency room visits increase (nori-Sarma, Sun, & Sun, 2022). Yayy climate change!

Please tell me y’all knew this already: MSG is not bad for you. A) When you eat it in food, it’s filtered out of your stomach and broken down into sodium & amino acids (the building blocks of protein) before it ever even reaches your bloodstream, just like every other food gets broken down into its component nutrients. MSG even occurs naturally in foods like cheese, seaweed, tomatoes, and meats.
B) the few studies that show higher incidence of headaches after MSG consumption were been conducted with poor experimental designs— meaning, the people participating in the studies could tell if they were in being fed MSG, and not a placebo. That means the participants’ responses were BIASED, and they may have had placebo headaches. The brain is a powerful organ!
C) read the paper linked in the comments below (Zanfirescu et al, 2020) to read more about the lack of evidence for MSG being harmful.

Do you ever wonder why we use blankets when we sleep? It’s because during REM sleep, your brain stops thermoregulating your internal body temperature… and you need the extra insulation of blankets! The optimal sleeping temperature appears to be 72 degrees or lower, but you won’t into REM if you’re too cold for the same reason— your brain says NAH. No REM tonight. It’s not safe to turn off thermoregulation!
