This morning, Northside President Paula Magnus and Director of Development, Solange Hansen, had the pleasure of joining nearly 100 members of Team Claritev to prepare 1,600 snack bags for New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity through Feed the City.

Before they got to work, the Feed the City leader asked everyone to think about who goes to bed hungry at night. People who look like us. People we know. People down the street from us. The reality is that we're all probably just one degree away from someone who has gone to bed hungry.

He also joked that it was okay if addressing hunger wasn't everyone's greatest passion — he was just simply grateful they showed up in that moment. But the message resonated with everyone in the room.

Paula and Solange were especially grateful to be present, as they know that some of the children and families served by Northside face these very challenges. Sometimes, making a difference really does begin with simply showing up and helping fill a need.

And this was a BIG team that showed up! Claritev's New York-area staff work remotely, so there was plenty of energy in the room as colleagues had the chance to come together in person to pack 1,600 snack bags in just one hour!

A BIG thank you to Andy Lounder for inviting Paula and Solange to be part of Team Claritev this morning. Northside is grateful for the opportunity to partner with organizations that are equally committed to strengthening our communities. We're looking forward to welcoming Team Claritev to Northside for our Holiday Wrap and Holiday Fest. After seeing what this team accomplished in just one hour, we have a feeling you're more than ready for our gift wrap-a-thon! 🎁💙

💙 Wellness Wednesday Tip!

Back-to-school season can bring excitement, but it can also bring big emotions. New classrooms, new routines, and new faces are all part of a major transition, and it's perfectly normal for children to need a little extra time to adjust.

One of the best ways to support your child is helping us in creating consistent routines, encouraging open conversations about their day, and reminding them that it's okay to ask for help.

At Northside, our dedicated staff are here every step of the way, creating safe, supportive spaces where children feel welcomed, encouraged, and confident as they settle into a new school year.

Sometimes, all a child needs is a caring adult who believes in them. 🎉

🛹☀️ Learning something new takes a little courage — and sometimes a skateboard!

Our Summer Enrichment students learned new skills and earned "new wheels" when Quantm Sk8 Skool came to Northside to teach them the basics of skateboarding!

With skateboards donated through our partner Goodera, our kids learned how to balance, move, stop, and — perhaps most importantly — get back up and try again. 💙

There were a few wobbles, lots of encouragement, and plenty of smiles as our students discovered that skateboarding is about more than staying on the board. It’s about confidence, persistence, coordination, and being willing to try something you’ve never done before.

A huge THANK YOU to Goodera for helping put skateboards under our kids’ feet and to Quantm Sk8 Skool for showing them what to do once they got there! 🛹🙌

That’s what Summer Enrichment at Northside is all about: new experiences, new skills, and new reasons to believe, “I can do this!” ☀️💙
