Kindergarten leveled up Hedbanz at BASIS Independent Manhattan! 👑🎒 Our little Wildcats teamed up to play a serious (and silly!) game that built their early literacy, structured writing, and collaborative teamwork skills.

That’s the magic of our Primary School classrooms—where our expert teachers make learning feel like playing, planting that seed of joyful inquiry from the very beginning. 📸🔎

And the winner is...🌎⚽👕
JAPAN! The National Jersey Design Contest resulted in some incredibly creative, culturally-expressive, and original creations by our middle school students. It was a close competition, but Japan hit all the criteria. Congratulations to all of our homerooms for their teamwork and investment in this World Cup Fest initiative. Enjoy your extra-long off-campus lunch and icees!

"Haven't seen students from different grades working this well together in a while!" 🤩

Today, BASIS Independent Manhattan students loved taking on the roles of Creative Directors, Designers, and Spec Writers to compete in the high-stakes World Cup Fest Jersey Contest. 🎨⚽️

After a draw to receive their selected countries, our Upper School homerooms jumped into action. These cross-grade teams spent the day researching, designing, and collaborating to create jerseys that encapsulate each country’s national identity.

Swipe to see them start turning these blank jerseys into ones that will encapsulate a country’s national identity. 📸 See the final results this Saturday, May 16, at our annual community event: World Cup Fest!

While these gestures are never expected, they truly "fill up our cup" and energize our entire team! ☕️ Massive gratitude goes out to our Wildcat Family Committee (WFC), our parents, our students, and our Operations Team for making us feel so special.

The secret ingredient to acing an AP exam at BASIS Independent Manhattan? Expert instruction, study tips that speak to our students, and a little bit of cake. 🍰📚

On the morning of their AP U.S. Government & Politics exam, our grade 9 students received a one-of-a-kind, creative study flyer from their History Subject Expert Teacher, Mr. Herschkowitz. To reciprocate that dedication, students surprised him with a cake to celebrate their hard work and say thank you for his support throughout the year. We are incredibly proud of the culture of respect, academic rigor, and mutual appreciation our teachers and students build together every day.

It’s time to customize your own academic adventure! Our BASIS Independent Manhattan Upper School students are just completing their 2026-27 course selections, and we want to lift the curtain on how our process works and what the BASIS Curriculum offers. 👀

Scroll through the slides to see a glimpse of what the BASIS Curriculum offers. From selecting a specific Honors Science track to choosing between Advanced Placement electives and Fine Arts, every student builds a schedule that reflects their interests and college aspirations. 🎓

And our Wildcats don’t do it on their own! Starting in grade 9, our students meet one-on-one with the Academic Programs team to navigate their course options. This guided independence culminates in Grade 12 with our Capstone program, where students engage in university-level research in fields like Marine Biology and Quantum Mechanics.🌊⚛

Our grade 4 students have been exploring the world of journalism in English class and recently took their learning on-site to The New York Times! 🗽

What started earlier this year as an organic interest in newspaper publishing turned into the "Gallium Gazette" and "Titanium Times." 📰 After months of self-assigning editorial roles and hitting their weekly deadlines, 4Ga and 4Ti took their hard work to The New York Times newsroom and museum to see how the pros do it.

Presenting their own papers to a professional editor and experiencing a “day in the life” of reporting brought their learning directly into the real world. It’s been incredible to watch our students’ initiative and amazing to see where curiosity and collaborative teamwork can lead!

Spirit Week Day 2: Double trouble and… pizza delivery? 🍕👯

At the Lower School, we were seeing double for Twin Day! From matching bandanas and denim overalls to perfectly coordinated teachers, the "matching" game was strong across every grade level.

Meanwhile, our Upper Schoolers took Anything But a Backpack Day very seriously. We saw laundry baskets, grocery carts, suitcases, and recycling bins—but the award for most creative "vessel" goes to the "Fresh Hot Pizza" delivery and the most studious doll stroller in Manhattan.

Who says you need a backpack to carry a heavy course load? 🐾

Spirit Week Day 1: Comfort vs. Competition. 🐾

The Upper School leaned into the cozy vibes for Pajama Day, while the Lower School brought the friendly fun and competition to the terrace for the Silly Olympics.

From the high-stakes concentration of Stack the Cups to the gravity-defying Face the Cookie challenge, the sportsmanship was on another level today. All the events were so close that we had to order extra medals to account for all the ties. 🏅
