In the interview, Dean Granot shared his vision for the next chapter of Sy Syms, including his priorities for strategic growth, student success, faculty excellence, experiential learning, and preparing students to lead in a rapidly changing business world.

From Basking Ridge, NJ, to the front office of the WNBAโ€™s Dallas Wings, Strategy & Entrepreneurship major and three-sport athlete Simone Amkraut โ€™28SB Simone Amkraut spent her summer turning her passion for sports into real-world business experience.

A standout athlete in basketball, softball and soccer at YU Yeshiva Athletics, Simone interned with the Dallas Wings Youth Programs, gaining hands-on experience in event management, community engagement, game day operations, and initiatives focused on growing girlsโ€™ basketball.

She also had the opportunity to see the business of professional sports from the insideโ€”helping organize equipment and promotional materials, supporting youth basketball programs, and building relationships with Wings fans and the local community.

Her experience reflects where she hopes to take her career: โ€œMy goal is to build a career in the sports industry, combining my passion for athletics with my skills in strategy and leadership.โ€

What does it mean to build a meaningful career in business?

During Orientation on the Wilf Campus yesterday, our new undergraduate dean Dr. Elad Granot challenged our newest Sy Syms students to think beyond their first job or their college degreeโ€”and consider who they want to become, what they want to contribute, and the impact they hope to make.

At Sy Syms, we prepare students to succeed in a rapidly changing business world through rigorous academics, AI and technological fluency, professional experience, and leadership development.

But we believe a Yeshiva University education asks for more.

We strive to develop ambitious, confident, and technologically sophisticated business leaders who are also grounded in values, guided by responsibility, and committed to using their knowledge to strengthen communities and make a positive impact.

Dr. Lasaleta teaches in both graduate and undergraduate programs at the Sy Syms School of Business at Yeshiva University, and her research examines how nostalgia shapes consumer behavior. She told Fortune that because AI is stereotypically seen as "artificial" and "not real," nostalgia counters that perceptionโ€”making the overall experience feel more genuine and human even when the product itself is AI-driven.

"Tapping into nostalgia is a really clever and reliable way to not only promote social connection but also to show that these are platforms that we have been using in the past and also now to connect with others," Lasaleta explained.
