I love getting better at yoga. 🧘‍♀️ But that isn’t why I train.

I want a body that helps me travel, explore, move confidently and keep saying yes to a life that interests me. 🤩

That is also how I approach Personal Yoga Training.

We start with what YOU want more of in your life, then look at what getting there will ask of you physically, mentally and emotionally — and train accordingly.

We’re not collecting poses. We’re deliberately training for something that matters beyond the mat. 💪💪

Some delights age beautifully.

I have always loved and respected sharks so when I spotted this little guy, I hugged it, laughed and then did the only reasonable thing: brought it home. 🦈😄

We outgrow plenty of things. Delight doesn’t have to be one of them.

There’s something wonderful about discovering that something that would have made you light up years ago can still do exactly that today. 🤩

Maybe growing older isn’t about becoming harder to delight. Maybe we just get better at recognizing what deserves a yes. 👍

Last weekend I taught a new Ecstatic Motion Method™ class called The Practice of Delight.

I created The Ecstatic Motion Method™ around a simple but powerful premise: Yoga can do more than improve how we move. We can use movement, breath and attention deliberately to practice qualities that change how we experience our lives and how we show up in them.

For this class, the quality was delight.

We explored it through seven different lenses — not simply by talking about what delights us, but by noticing what changes physically, mentally and emotionally when we bring more of it into the experience.

One of the questions I asked was:
What would make this 5% more delightful?

That 5% can be surprisingly revealing. Put the music on. Take the prettier route. Eat lunch outside. Bring some wit into the meeting. Stay another 10 minutes because you’re having a really good time.

Sometimes one small choice changes the entire experience. Sometimes nothing needs changing at all. We need to stop missing what is already wonderful or leaving it quite so quickly.

And sometimes that little lift points toward something much bigger: a person you want more time with, work that excites you, a place you keep thinking about or an adventure that has spent quite long enough in the “someday” pile.

That is where this week’s edition of my LinkedIn newsletter Zest Meets Zen goes — from a 5% shift in an ordinary moment to the bigger question of how much delight we are willing to create, notice and say yes to while the opportunity is ours.

Don’t Save Delight for Someday →

Here's a question you can use before your next meeting, halfway through a long project or while deciding whether to stay home or go do the thing: What would make this 5% more delightful? Maybe the answer is to: Take the one-on-one outside instead of sitting across another conference table. Use the r

Sometimes that’s yoga too — fall out, laugh, try again.

Certain things should become an automatic yes. 👍

Move our body. Get outside. Take the walk. Do the thing we know makes us feel better.

The goal isn’t to wake up every morning and assess whether or not we feel like it. The more often we choose what supports our vitality, the more natural that choice becomes. 💪

And then there are mornings like this one — gorgeous weather, ocean, sunshine — when life gives us a little extra nudge and the yes gets extra easy. 🌞

Those days are a gift. But the habit is what gets us out there on the ordinary ones too.

That’s my kind of easy yes. 🤗

Our Decision Toward Vitality campaign is what started this. 🤩

For July and August, Leah and I decided we were going to walk six mornings a week at 7 a.m., with Sundays off as a rest day.

At first it was something we had decided to do. Then, pretty quickly, it became something we wanted to do. Within a week or so, we were waking up ready to go, sometimes before the alarm, and neither of us felt like skipping it. ⏰

Leah added her own reward ritual: green iced tea from Starbucks afterward. Her pug Gigi joined us a few times. I started adding short sprints and spotting every railing, wall and bench that looked like a convenient place to stretch. 😂

And the walks became their own little morning world: The flock of geese, the Exchange Place pigeons, sunrises over Manhattan, familiar faces heading to work, dogs getting their walks, ferries crossing the river and that incomparable skyline changing with the light. On rainy days, we just moved the operation inside the nearby Harborside Financial Center.

Now it’s September and we’re still going. 💪

That may be my favorite thing about a Decision Toward Vitality: Eventually it stops feeling like something you’re making yourself do and starts feeling like part of how you want to live.

Pondering is way underrated.

Before I ever taught yoga, I spent years teaching and coaching hundreds of people through career decisions, leadership and major life changes using a seven-step transformation process I had developed.

Years later, yoga added something I had been missing: the body. That process became the foundation for my Ecstatic Motion Method™.

And one of the things I care about most in the method happens before we race toward a goal.

We make room to think. 🤔

💭 What do I genuinely want more of now?
💭 What keeps hovering in the back of my mind?
💭 What feels exciting, unfinished or newly possible?
💭 What might make life more meaningful, adventurous or simply a lot more fun?

Because the change worth making isn’t always the first one we would have named.

Sometimes a little strategic pondering is exactly where the really interesting stuff starts. 🤩

Then we move.

What's pulled at your curiosity lately? 🧐

Sometimes kindness to yourself is very small.

Sit somewhere lovely. Order something you enjoy. Let yourself linger for a minute instead of rushing on to the next thing.

Tiny luxuries don’t have to be grand. They just have to feel like care. ❤️
