Becca Shapiro is a tutor and college prep mentor for students grades 9-12. Part mathematician, part comedy writer, Becca’s unique approach to teaching eases students’ stress and brings fun back to learning. Hers is a holistic, integrative perspective, with focus on simplifying subjects into their intuitive roots.
Becca specializes in college application essay assistance, as well as coaching throughout the entire college application process. College preparation begins in ninth grade when students start to arrange their extra-curriculars and adapt to the academic challenges of high school, and culminates senior year, when high schoolers must identify their ideal schools and present themselves as the unique, qualified, individuals they are. Becca believes the college application process need not focus solely on the ends, but rather the means: applying for colleges and composing self-identifying essays is an exercise in self-reflection and individualization. Becca is passionate about helping high schoolers and their parents see this time as an opportunity in and of itself. She hopes to provide the necessary academic and personal support to allow students to flourish and find themselves along the way.
Becca graduated from Duke University in 2019 with a BA in Mathematics and Creative Writing. In high school, Becca was a National Merit Scholar and an International Baccalaureate student. She received a 2390 on her SATs, and 800s on all her completed subject tests (Biology, Economics, Math II). Becca has worked as a tutor, a founding member of a venture-backed startup, a live concert sound engineer, and most recently as a comedy/fiction writer based in Brooklyn, NY.
