Our work in Black Maternal Health, in community care, and in advancing health equity are ESSENTIAL public health work. The reclassification of public health degrees undermines an entire field that we are part of and depend on.

We know firsthand that public health is the backbone of disease prevention, community wellbeing, and maternal health care equity. Our field has eliminated infectious diseases, saved lives, expanded care access, and shaped systems that protect the environment, people, and ecosystems.

BMMA rejects this reclassification. We affirm, without hesitation, the value, expertise, and professionalism of public health, and we stand with every public health practitioner committed to justice and community health.
