The 2026 NCLEX (effective April 1, 2026) reinforces the Next Generation (NGN) focus on clinical judgment with updated, more inclusive terminology and a stronger emphasis on identifying patient risk, delegation, and safety. While the core structure, passing standards, and percentages remain largely the same as the 2023 plan, the 2026 update increases focus on real-world, scenario-based questions.
Key information:
1. Over-all format is retained. The exam remains a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) with case studies and traditional questions.
2. Client needs category percentage is retained.
3. Highly invested on clinical judgement with more emphasis on analyzing patient data to prevent deterioration rather than just identifying it.
4. Revised: Safety and Infection Prevention and Control
- introduces prevention as a core nursing responsibility
- emphasizes anticipation, mitigation, and early intervention
The 2026 update is designed to reflect current practice, not to increase the difficulty level. With the right strategy and preparation, you can pass the NCLEX!
All of our review courses are updated regularly based on NCSBN guidelines. Program enhancements have already been implemented in anticipation of the upcoming changes by April 1, 2026.
