A sunset on Mars looks very different from the sunsets we see on Earth. NASA’s Mars rovers have captured real images of the Sun setting over the Martian horizon, revealing a beautiful bluish glow surrounded by the planet’s dusty atmosphere. Unlike Earth, where sunsets often appear red, orange, and pink, Mars can display a blue halo around the setting Sun because fine dust particles in its atmosphere scatter sunlight differently. 🔴🔵

Think about it: generations of humans have looked at sunsets on Earth, but we now have the technology to witness sunsets on another planet through robotic explorers. These observations help scientists understand Mars’ atmosphere, dust particles, and changing environmental conditions. One day, future explorers may watch a Martian sunset with their own eyes.

BREAKING 🚨 On October 15, 2026, the crescent Moon appears near Antares, the bright reddish star at the heart of the Scorpius constellation. This beautiful celestial pairing offers a great opportunity to explore the night sky!
earthsky.org +1
Antares is a red supergiant star located hundreds of light-years away. Although it may look close to the Moon from Earth, the two objects are separated by an enormous distance in space. This apparent meeting is called a conjunction—a visual alignment in our sky, not an actual close encounter.
Look toward the western sky after sunset, weather permitting. The Moon and Antares may appear low on the horizon, so visibility depends on your location and local conditions.

🌠 Last night, 13 fireballs were reported by NASA’s All-Sky Fireball Network. One of them belonged to the Southern Taurids.

Imagine driving along a quiet road when a brilliant streak of light suddenly cuts across the night sky. For a few seconds, darkness becomes something extraordinary.

On October 9, 2026, NASA’s All-Sky Fireball Network recorded 13 fireballs: 12 sporadic meteors and one Southern Taurid. ✨

These flashes occur when small pieces of space debris enter Earth’s atmosphere at tremendous speeds, heating the surrounding gases and producing brilliant light. The brightest meteors are known as fireballs.

The Southern Taurids are especially intriguing because, despite their modest meteor numbers, they’re known for occasionally producing spectacular, slow-moving fireballs.

And the best part? You never know exactly when one will appear.

🌌 Sometimes, the universe puts on a show without warning.

Would you pull over on a quiet road to watch a fireball like this streak across the sky? 🔥

A rocket launch turned the sky into a giant glowing jellyfish. 🚀🌌

Early Tuesday morning, a SpaceX Falcon 9 lifted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, carrying supplies and scientific equipment toward the International Space Station.

But for people watching from farther inland, the rocket created a spectacular bonus: a huge, glowing plume spreading across the predawn sky.

Here's the science behind the strange shape. High above Earth, the exhaust expands into the thin atmosphere. Even while the ground is still dark, the plume can catch direct sunlight from below the horizon, making it glow against the night sky.

The result looks almost otherworldly—but it's a remarkable combination of rocket technology, atmospheric physics and perfect timing.

If you looked outside and saw this, would you recognize a rocket launch? 🚀

He's 194 years old and still out here eating grass.

Meet Jonathan. No land animal alive on Earth has been around longer.

He's believed to have hatched around 1832. Queen Victoria hadn't taken the throne yet. Britain hadn't abolished slavery yet. Every human who was alive the year he cracked out of his egg is long gone, and Jonathan is still strolling the governor's garden on St Helena like he owns the place.

Empires rose and fell. He kept chewing.

Slow and steady turned out to be the whole strategy.

Yesterday afternoon, a nearly perfect opening appeared in a blanket of clouds over the Midwest.

Known as a fallstreak hole, it can form when supercooled water droplets freeze into ice crystals and fall from a cloud layer, leaving a large gap behind.

A hole in the clouds created by falling ice. 🌤️❄️

Strong chance of seeing The Northern Lights right now! ✨

If you have clear skies, find a view looking North!

Coincidentally, this image was captured exactly two years ago, when we had a very strong geomagnetic storm

NASA just shared a stunning close-up of Jupiter… and it’s hard to process what you’re looking at. 🤯

Those swirls aren’t brushstrokes.
They’re storms.

Some of them are larger than Earth — and some have been raging for centuries.

Think about that for a second…
Entire worlds could fit inside weather systems on this planet. 🌪️🪐

Jupiter doesn’t just have storms.
It has atmospheric chaos on a scale that barely feels real.

The more you look… the wilder it gets.
