It was a full week of learning, exploration, and movement in the classroom and outdoors!

In Science, our Friday work focused on liquids and introduced the students to our “Storm in a Jar” experiment. Before beginning, they wrote their science reports and made predictions, practicing how scientists document their thinking and observations.

The students also returned enthusiastically to mathematics, especially enjoying their math fact drills. We practiced counting, comparing symbols and quantities, connecting numbers to quantities, and building fluency with math facts. As their fluency develops, children will begin timing themselves as a tool for self-assessment, checking their own work or working with a buddy.

Alongside academic work, the students had plenty of opportunities to move, play, and have fun outdoors while developing coordination and body awareness. They also continued practicing cursive handwriting, focusing on careful letter formation and building confidence in their writing.

Across all of these activities, the children are gradually settling into the rhythm of the classroom, strengthening their skills, and becoming more independent in their work.

There is construction behind the doors at Hopscotch Montessori VIA 57. Six new classrooms are being built, including one that will allow us to offer something we have wanted to provide for a long time: an Infant/Toddler program beginning in September 2027 — a Montessori community for children ages 1 to 2.

For many families, the year a child turns one is also the year a parent returns to a full work schedule. The question is often whether there is a place that meets your standards: how your child is spoken to during a diaper change, what happens when one nap is no longer enough but two are still too many, and how much you actually know about your child’s day.

Back Into the Rhythm of Learning 🌱

The new school year is officially underway at Hopscotch Montessori!

After the summer break, our children quickly settled back into the rhythm of the classroom. Familiar routines, meaningful work, and opportunities for independence helped everyone transition naturally into the new school year.

From the very first day, the children were busy practicing and refining the skills they have been developing throughout their journey. They worked independently, reconnected with friends, and confidently returned to choosing and completing their own work.

Our older children were already taking on more advanced projects, including historical work on our Peaceful Heroes and creating collages for their 3-ring binders — combining research, creativity, and careful hands-on work.

There was also time to revisit important classroom and safety routines, practice everyday practical skills, and enjoy being together outside.

It was a calm and productive start to the year — a day that showed just how quickly children can return to a familiar learning environment and continue moving forward.

We are looking forward to all the learning, discoveries, and growth this new school year will bring. ✨

The past week at our school has been all about getting ready to welcome our students back.

While our team refreshed and prepared the classroom environments, our educators spent the week learning, reflecting, and adding new tools to their practice. One of the highlights was a Professional Development session with Christine Lowry, a Montessori educator and consultant with extensive experience in supporting inclusive, responsive learning environments. She worked with our team on practical strategies for building a strong social-emotional curriculum and creating environments that support connection, belonging, and meaningful relationships.

Because preparing for a new school year is about more than making sure the classrooms are ready. It’s about making sure the people, the environment, and the approach are all ready to support children from the very first day.

And now, we’re ready. 💛

Tomorrow, the doors at VIA 57 open again, and we can’t wait to welcome our students back. We’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting new ones, and beginning another year of learning, discovery, and growing together.

One of the pillars of the Hopscotch approach is Whole-Child Development — creating an environment where children can grow academically while also developing the social, emotional, physical, and creative skills they need to thrive.

Our Montessori foundation gives students agency, freedom of choice, and space for reflection, while our teachers and IB coordinators work together to create flexible academic plans that meet individual needs and ensure no child is left behind.

The combination of Montessori’s multi-age, multi-ability approach with the IB framework allows students to progress at their own pace while working toward shared academic goals.

And learning extends well beyond the classroom. Our enrichment programme brings balance through arts, sports, theatre, foreign languages, yoga, mindfulness, and PE, supporting both wellbeing and self-expression.

Because whole-child education is about developing not only strong learners, but independent, resilient, creative, and well-rounded individuals.

🍋 Lemonade Day Celebration

Last week, our school came together for one of the sweetest highlights of the summer — Lemonade Day! What started weeks in advance brought every classroom together for a day filled with creativity, teamwork, and community spirit.

Our younger children prepared fruit cups and fresh lemonade, learning to use a juicer, squeeze lemons, and create fun fruit shapes. They also helped make lemon Rice Krispie treats, sugar cookies, and colorful yogurt parfaits while practicing measuring, mixing, decorating, and working together.

Our older children baked scones, lemon cookies, tiramisu, and other treats, while also creating artwork and decorations for the celebration.

While the celebration happened on Friday, the older children had been preparing for it weeks in advance. They helped plan what we would offer, went shopping for the ingredients, and spent time in the kitchen baking delicious treats, including scones, lemon cookies, tiramisu, and more. They also created artwork and decorations to make the event feel extra special.

Together, the children raised $853 and all donations from Lemonade Day will support our Hopscotch Montessori campus in Kyiv, helping create a safe and inspiring environment for children to learn and grow.
