🌸In the early 1900s, Singer promoted free-motion satin stitch using only a straight-stitch machine. Can you still embroider this way in 2025?? Yes!
👉🏼All you needed for this type of embroidery:

✅ An embroidery/darning foot (to allow free movement).
✅ Lowered feed dogs, or use a cover plate to disable them.
✅ A hoop to hold your fabric taut and move it freely under the needle.

✨ How you can do this technique:

✅ Drop feed dogs or cover them with a plate.
✅ Attach a darning or embroidery foot (or none at all for some Singer models).
✅ Hoop your fabric with stabilizer.
✅ Manually move the hoop side-to-side under the needle to simulate zigzag motion.
✅ Practice controlling spacing and direction—this is true free-motion embroidery.

📝 Note: It takes some practice, but it’s how early Singer users made machine-shaded embroidery shown in the Singer Instructions for Art Embroidery book, 1911.
